Athletic Trainers

We are pleased to partner with Beacon as the sole provider of sports medicine services for CHCA MSL High School.  Athletic Trainers Certified (ATC) are highly educated health care professionals skilled in the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries that result from physical activity. Specifically they specialize in five practice areas or domains:?

                    1. Prevention of athletic injuries

                    2. Recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries

                    3. Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries

                    4. Health care administration

                    5. Professional Development


The ATC is an integral member of the health care team who works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches and parents. Each Athletic Trainer Certified has fulfilled the requirements for certification established by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, Inc. and must also be licensed by the state through the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board.

Joe has been with CHCA since 2004, and Beacon Orthopaedics ?since 2007. He received his bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion & Education with emphasis in Athletic Training from the University of Cincinnati in 1998. He spent one year as an intern with the Cincinnati Bengals, then completed his graduate assistantship with a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology from Auburn University in 2001. In addition to his high school responsibilities, he works with Dr. Peter Cha during his clinic hours. He assists in casting, home exercise instruction and post operative care.

Dr. Cha, received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed an orthopaedic residency at the University of Cincinnati and a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.


He has worked with high school, intercollegiate and professional athletes in both Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Most recently, he acted as the assistant team physician for the University of Pittsburgh Division I athletic teams and with the Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team and is Team Physician for Cincinnati Excite.


His interests include sports related injuries and pathology of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, foot and ankle.
